4th International Chamber Music Festival June 7th - 28th, 2009
It is my utmost pleasure to cordially welcome you to the fourth edition of the SOUNDING JERUSALEM chamber music festival.
I am looking forward to share with you three concerted weeks swivelling around music and human beings. Enthralling programmes, outstanding prominent artists and intellectual openness allowing us to listen, open up, perceive, reflect upon and exchange with others around us.
SOUNDING JERUSALEM is a music festival for all people living in Jerusalem and the region around, irrespective of their ethnic, social and religious affiliation. Offering free and equal access to all our cultural events, we encourage everyone to discover our concerts and have a stab at its artistic thought.
Music is a language understood by all impartial to their backgrounds, like-wise coherent and free for each individual to interpret as wished. It is hence ideal to venture through a 3 weeklong expedition, not only to discover thrilling aspects of diversity of the various cultures, but perhaps oneself.
For example through the “Mélange Oriental” series, where diverse cultural traditions get involved and are conflated into an artistic process, giving birth to a dynamic composition reflecting on cultural roots between past and future with a distinctive token of entitlement to diversity.
SOUNDING JERUSALEM is a festival that is maybe unable to be geographically reachable for all people at the same time and place. However we are bestirred to reach audiences in all regions, to build bridges and bring about connections through our music and thoughts.
An important example for this is embedded in our roof top concert: it might be an illusion, but this evening we blow a vision in the air that is yet not possible to live on the ground. With our music we symbolize a young dialogue in the evening sky, connecting the quarters of Jerusalem’s Old City.
I wish you all an intriguing and inspiring time,
Yours,
Erich Oskar Huetter
(Artistic Director)
