Brahms developed the cello sonata to a superbly expressive genre, full of dynamics, tonal beauty and storms of passion. Nowhere does this music fit better than in Jerusalem’s Old City, where two intensive soundscapes convene.

Sounding Jerusalem is proud to present the best of its Melange Oriental highlight programms to the grand openning of Shurouq Cultural Youth Center. Young culture from Europa and Palestine shall link up and melt together. Shurouq [i.e.Sunrise] is not a building; it's an idea, a floating space like music; for self expression, for talent, for assuming command and control over one's life, because the future is not received, rather made.

The legendary sunrise concert is among the utmost highlights of the festival: Nearly on top of the Mount of Temptation with an incredible view, as the Jordan Valley dawns and the Dead Sea begins to sparkle, a zestful ensemble of young brass musician will join the power of awaking nature and send golden fanfares into the rising sun; a merely wonderful rising experience sensing pure life.
Access only via cable car at 4.45 am! (Cable car tickets for NIS 50 per person are available at the cable cars lower-station, tickets include breakfast on top of the mountain. Limited places – reservation calls recommended)

THE ROOF CONCERT: CONNECTING PEOPLE
Roofs of the Old City, Jerusalem
A vision over the roofs, created by 40 young wind instrument players from Europe and the Middle East: performing a piece especially composed for this night. The young artists send a sounding message in the evening sky of Jerusalem, binding the quarters of the Old City.
Music might achieve what is not yet possible on the ground: the equal participation of an ethnic, religious and cultural diversity in a peaceful and stimulating dialogue.
