STUDIO PERCUSSION graz

Founded in 1979 by Günter Meinhart, STUDIO PERCUSSION graz has brought a considerable number of productions to life on various stages in Austria and abroad over the past 30 years. Apart from the constant conservation and expansion of their repertoire of contemporary music, STUDIO PERCUSSION graz also enjoys repeated and exciting cooperation with musicians, composers and organisers from the field of Jazz.

In summer 2006, the percussion theatre WUMM! was performed for the first time at the opera in Graz as part of the LA STRADA festival, which has been cooperating with STUDIO PERCUSSION graz for several years. This production will be the centrepiece of their international guest performances for the next few years.

In summer 2010, STUDIO PERCUSSION will present the new production FACES & PLACES for the first time.

The ensemble also takes great pleasure in producing children’s and youth programmes. These programmes give young audiences an insight into the extensive and partly very exotic range of instruments; and with the help of original literature or adaptations, young listeners are introduced to the development and the repertory of percussion music.

FINAL, QUARTER FINAL

Sun, July 11th

Meeting Point at the Austrian Hospice at 5:00 pm
Musical walk through the Old City of Jerusalem and
Final concert at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer at 6.30 pm

Not only the soccer loving world is having a party this evening, music is also celebrating its triumph in a grand finale in the quarters of the Old City. What began as a “roof concert” a few years ago – as a vision on a higher level up in the air – has come down to earth again and mixes with the people, spreading colourful and diverse sounds through the narrow alleyways. Every one is invited to be a musician and to leave her/his musical marks. And at the great closing event in the courtyard of the Church of the Redeemer everyone is in the team of the world cup winner. Long live music!

All years, the final concert of Sounding Jerusalem is transporting a special message. What began as the „roof concert“ – a vision of music connecting people up in the air, on top oft he roofs of Jerusalem’s Old City – has come down to the earth. This musical vision is no longer an untouchable cloud of sounds in the sky, but tries to mix with the people and become part of the life in the narrow alleyways.

The goal ist to abolish the limitations between active musician and passive spectator. Music is a common good and therefore should be experienced in common.  Everyone is invited to be a musician and to express himself/herself in a piece of percussion that is especially composed for this evening.

A festive group of people (this means you) will meet at the Austrian Hospice at 5.00 pm and from there start a sounding procession to the picturesque courtyard oft he Lutheran Church of the Redeemer. Everyone will be provided with a little instrument of percussion and professionally instructed to actively be part of the musical orchestration that will sound through the streets oft he Old City.

After arriving in the Church of Redeemer, there will be a huge musical performance involving all levels of the beautiful courtyard. 30 percussionists from all over the world, the musicians performing the Sounding Jerusalem „Mélange Oriental“ programme as well as a renowned photographer artist from Europe, projecting his subtle and touching impressions of Jerusalem, will as a final highlight create a firework of rhythm, melodies and visual eye catchers.
